Private islands are a very complex travel product, with lots of variables and high cost. Building a story from the ground up is no cheap exercise; you aren't just building a house - you need roads, docks, electricity, plumbing, everything from design and permits to construction is yours to invest in. Each island has a soul and a personality, just as their owners. Some come with private landing strips, others with music studios or specialty medical spa equipment. They aren't all beach resorts either - some are a mere 5-minute boat ride to a busy city, others are in the middle of the lake or covered in snow most of the year, a few are wheelchair-accessible, a handful will accept pets, a couple are mosquito-free. They are worldwide - Australia, Fiji, Madagaskar, Norway, Maldives, Seychelles, Italy, Colombia, Panama, Cambodia, India, Caribbean, to name a few - and there are over one hundred of them, with less than a half what we would call ultimate luxury.

Now, the word 'luxury' gets thrown around a lot and it doesn't mean what many think it means. Luxury is not to be confused with grand, or opulent, or cutting-edge, or extravagant. Luxury is precision. Luxury is obsessively detail-oriented, perfectly executed, impeccably maintained, always consistent, exclusive and of highest quality. Luxury is unphased by the requirements and expectations of ultra-high net worth guests or public figures, because that's who it's created for. Luxury answers a confident no to the question of 'is there something like this but indisputably better out there?' That's what we are looking for in a property. We also believe there can be no luxury without service to match, so the private islands we recommend are not just someone's vacant holiday real estate to let - they are all professionally managed hotels and resorts, employing full-time permanent on-site staff and maintaining 5-star amenities. This ensures consistency, high quality service and guests' peace of mind.

In our collection, a private island is exactly be what the name suggests - privately owned in its entirety. There are gorgeous properties out there that are a sole accommodation provider on their island, but there may be a national park next door which is open to all, or a small village of local residents nearby, so you may encounter trespassers enjoying too long of a beach walk, or see some day trippers on a boat too close to the beach you are on. This is not the product we focus on. The islands we inspect, vet and recommend have the ability to completely close it off to unwanted visitors and make it absolutely private, so you can find your peace and satisfy your isolation cravings.

In case of a full buyout of a private island, this is of utmost importance as you are booking the entire place and all of its units for yourself, and you surely don't want any outsiders. Some of the islands are only available for full buyouts and don't take individual bookings of their units, but that's a minority. Most will need plenty of advance notice to block the place for your dates. We are able to walk you through how it works, where to go and when, what prices to expect, and ensure quick turnaround times as we have established contact with the on-site team in charge. We don't facilitate individual room or villa bookings - all we offer is guidance and expertise in full buyouts to help you choose the best match, so that nothing can ever top this trip.
